Pre-Wired OBEL Jack Plate

Fitted with Switchcraft 12B TRS jacks, and pre-wired with 8-10 inch leads, this is the easiest way to incorporate an obel system into your existing guitar set up. Although this features pre-wired jacks, you will need to solder the other side of the leads to different places within the guitar to insert the OBEL circuit. This plate is a direct replacement for a Stratocaster jack plate. Also available in “plate only” format, without jacks or wires. Includes mounting screws.

Instructions:

• OBEL Jack:

  • Yellow: OBEL Send (connects from your OBEL bypass switch - or directly from your buffer out if no bypass switch). Connected to “tip” of northernmost TRS jack.

  • Blue (or purple depending on stock levels): OBEL Return (connects back to your OBEL bypass switch, on the terminal that returns the signal to your volume knob input). Connected to “ring” of northernmost TRS jack.

  • Black: Ground (main ground bus) (shared between the two jacks).

• OUT Jack:

  • (same wire as last step) black ground wire to your main ground bus.

  • Connect the green wire (connected to the ring terminal of the TRS) to your 9V battery ground (black/negative).

  • White: Output hot (connect from your volume knob output).

Note:

While OBEL systems technically can be implemented in passive formats, using a buffer is highly recommended. In a passive setup, a 250K or 500k potentiometer in the volume position is standard. However, to avoid squeal and other unpleasant sounds, I recommend you use a Waldotronics buffer and 25k or 10k potentiometer in the volume position with any OBEL-equipped guitar.
